(Anti)fascism through the lens of food and seeds

Location Studio (BAK)

Pauwstraat 13A
Utrecht

What do food and seeds have to do with fascism? More than we might think. Food, farming and agriculture are often framed as neutral or technical issues, yet they are deeply political and have long been used to shape ideas about identity, borders and belonging.

In this workshop, ASEED and Reclaim The Seeds invite you to look at food and seeds through an anti-fascist lens. We will unpack how fascist and right-wing movements have used narratives around “healthy food”, (national) self-sufficiency and food sovereignty, and why these narratives can sometimes sound uncomfortably familiar. At the same time, we’ll explore grassroots food autonomy struggles, seed saving practices and peasant movements that place justice, solidarity and ecology at their core. Through discussion and concrete examples, the workshop will connect food and seed struggles to collective organizing, resistance and everyday practices, and open space to imagine and build anti-fascist food systems together.
