In the first part of this workshop, we will introduce you to Amsterdam BANGS. Unlike the FRINGE - get it?? --- BANGS is a political theatre and performance festival, entirely unfunded and unbranded and uncommerical. We will share how we organised an autonomous theatre and performance festival that raised over 5000 euros for occupied territories and explain what the politics are behind our dream to recapture the city for the sake of clownery, magic, and provocation?
In the second part, we will take some time to understand how the current "art world" is unable to contribute genuinely to political causes. For this, we will draw a bit on different frameworks: Yin Aiwen's Alchemy of Commons project, who is giving another workshop at 2dh5 just centred on this as well, and also discuss how the figure of the artist itself is related to the police as another guardian of capital.
Finally, in the third part, so long as we have already had ample time to share thoughts and experiences, we will engage in a bit of a surrealist, imaginative exercise to reclaim the city. Hopefully, spawning some theatrical action ideas!
