Non Disabled activists, organizers and people co-struggling for freedom: Who is left out of your organizing space and strategies? How is ableism hurting us all? Together let’s begin to work towards co-struggling with solidarity not charity, and without leaving each other behind. Join us for this interactive workshop inspired by Disabled brilliance. (Disabled participants also welcome!)
This is an experiential workshop utilizing slow embodied practice and play, silent reflection, and discussion. Ableism in Activism is designed for organizers and activists who do not center Disability Justice yet, or are ready to take their work deeper and embody why it belongs in all movement work. Ableism in Activism is also for those of us whose bodies and minds require Disability Justice every day.
We intend to offer virtual attendance as well to make the workshop more accessible to community members who cannot attend in person. It will not be recorded to preserve confidentiality of all participants.
The workshop takes place on the ground floor at BAK Basecamp and is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet. Seating will be available.
This is a Covid-cautious event: participants are asked to take a Covid self-test before attending in person, and switch to virtual attendance if you have any cold/flu/Covid symptoms. Masks are encouraged and will be available on site.
The workshop will be held in English. There will be no sign language interpretation, but automatic captions will be available for online participants.
