Activists without uniforms – queering the question ‘who are you?’
za 20 feb, 2016 : 10:30 - 11:45free
In a warzone, combatants without uniform have virtually no rights at all and in society and activism alike there is little shelter for those who refuse to explain who and what they are. Queer activists have invented great new labels for those who are neither man nor woman and those who are not gay, straight, bi or asexual. And those labels are very useful for some. But what if we stopped answering the questions ‘are you a man or a woman?’, ‘who are you attracted to?’, ‘why exactly do you identify as disabled?’ and ‘where are you really from?’. What if we stopped giving in to the demand that we live understable, manageable and predictable lives with stable identities to match?
For this workshop, Rense (who is no expert on anything and is figuring half of this stuff out as he/she/they goes along), will share some experiences and perspectives on living without labels and then invite all those who want to participate to share their own experiences. Maybe together we can find out what queer activism (or activism in general, or living) would mean without stable identities and identity politics.
